Much like when one chapter closes and a new one opens, “PHANTASIA” invites you into Turk’s past world of heartbreaks galore, where true freedom and liberation are found only by dancing through it all.
With producer, collaborator, and friend Dylan Allen Todd (DAT), Turk celebrates love and intimate connection with a diverse community of collaborators and friends formed at California Institute of the Arts and Los Angeles at large who helped inspire the core themes of this Neo 80’s-Disco-Hyperpop 5-track EP. Themes such as queerness, liberation, sex, love, and feminism are highlighted in this vivid portrait of a broken heart when you pursue a flamboyant found love.

With all the sweetness you have in your life, there’s still no escaping the feeling of sadness, therefore you’re left with “Blue Honey”. Who We Are
“Who We Are” was mostly just a short scrap song in my voice notes- until I brought it to Sweden. Already
having the first verse written out, it gave the song a good understanding as to where it was going to go.
Hayley Aitken and Olof Lindskog were in the process of writing this song, and we all hoped for this song to be an anthem for every teenager in their search for identity.

Nothing About You
“We are not going anywhere until you finish writing a song today.” I was given approximately 2 hours to write a song until my father returned home. I texted around 20 to 30 of my friends and asked them to give me a word or a phrase that was anywhere between sad and melancholic. Thankfully, I’ve already come up with a lick on the piano, and all I had to do was piece the words together and make a story out of it. I asked for an extra 20 minutes to finish polishing the song, and then “Nothing About You” was born.

Outsider
During my 2017 NYU songwriting summer camp, I co-wrote a song with songwriter Anneliese Riedel. At first, all we had were lyrics that captured an issue about alienation and the injustice of not being socially accepted for thinking differently. The next morning I came up with the beat, track, and melody to present to the class. Bringing the song to Hayley Aitken and Olof Lindskog in Sweden to have it produced truly helped the song grow and flourish more than what I had sought it to be.

Gigantics
“Gigantics” was written during my songwriting camp in Bali at the start of 2017. A guy at the program challenged me to write a song about teenagers who live decadent lives and feel ‘gigantic’ whenever they do illegal things. I didn’t want to lose, so I shut myself in a room for 3 hours and came out with that song.

Young
For the first time in my life, I felt homesick. Studying at Berklee’s summer camp in 2016, I sat down in a practice room and began a catchy melody on the piano. Made and finished in that moment, “Young” captured the feeling of missing your folks and the sense of home once you’ve truly realized that it was time to venture into the world alone.

You (Beautiful)
Originally, “You (Beautiful)” was a personal message that I needed to get to a friend living far away as they were struggling with a few issues that needed comforting. Yet, behind the words, I could see that I was writing this to a bigger crowd. People tend to forget their self-worth just by looking in the mirror, and although you may not see it that way, others who genuinely care for you see something inside you that you don’t. You are more than just a number on the scale, you are more than the dots which cover your face and make up a constellation, and you are certainly more than the person you think you are.

The Cafe
When I wrote this song, I was stuck behind a school desk, waiting for the last period of eighth grade to start. At first, I had this hook going through my mind. I was about to brush it off and focus on the class- but I didn’t. Instead, I took my binder and scribbled some words to accompany the melody. I’ve always liked the idea of a third-person narrative, and when writing the song’s message I just wrote what I felt I needed to hear at that moment. I had the song finished and ready just after the bell rang. Long story short, the last period ended and my mom drove home fast like a crazy person so I could find a piano and not forget the song I had in my head.

Daisies
Around the time I wrote “Daisies" I got into a lot of poetry writing. I just thought it was fun to write about things that meant something else, and “Daisies” was, well, precisely that.
